This is one of several of the Hal Leonard line of "Easy Fake Books" I own. As a beginning guitarist, the simplified melodies are easy to pick out and the chord designations make accompanying the melody a joy. But this book will be a favorite. Most of the songs in this collection are classic (read "really old"). We're talking the Gershwin brothers, Cole Porter, and other composers that took jazz out of the smoky night clubs and dropped it smack in the middle of Broadway and elevated jazz to the legitimate concert stage. Even better, most of this collection is familiar to the most casual of music listeners. The larger fonts and notations make it really nice for my aging eyes. No, it is not a spiral or comb-bound, but you can press it flat enough to sit on a music stand. And more importantly, while these arrangements are simplified, they do serve to inspire one to tackle the tunes and songs in their original key-signatures. I really like this book, and I heartily recommend any of the "Easy Fake Book" series.
The Kindle version seemed like a convenient way to have music books. But the page is only about ¾ of the screen area - difficult to read when it's on the music holder.More annoying, even though I bought the book and theoretically own it, it's not possible to print the pages so they'd big enough to read it.If I can figure out Kindle's Byzantine return process, I'll be getting my money back.
For guitarists, this is a wonderful way to enjoy these standards because every song is in C. For those guitarists who have struggled to play the classics in E flat or B flat, you will find this book a blessing. I don't always agree with every chord change but in general, these are superbly arranged. For those guitarists who like to combine leads and chording this book is like seeing the Midnight Sun: exquisite!
Just what I needed, jazz some in an easy key to play on piano. I was able all the songs I was familiar with!
This is another book of this very popular book series for beginners and intermediate piano playing students . Being an older piano student , I appreciate some of the most popular songs from the first half of the twentieth century. The selection of songs in this book favors Gershwin , a choice that I have no qualm about
This music is pretty easy to play, I am learning jazz guitar and play it, but my guitar instructor is actually changing the chords to make it more challenging and interesting to listen to, sometimes the same chord is played for 2 full measures, and the chords are pretty simple chords as well. But this book does what it says it will do.
A definite good solid collection of tunes. I have several sources of scribed music - the most popular modern format is probably the mobile app for tablets. For quickly dialing up a tune these are wonderful. This is where this Kindle format comes undone. I find the text very small, impractically so in fact. Attempting to share the screen between 2 of us was impossible as at distance no one could make out the writing!
I play improv piano, and this is a good old jazz collection. I wish it wasn't all in the key of C, but with poor eyesight the large print makes it very easy to use and I love the choice of songs.
